 REV. JOHN BERRY

Senior Pastor St. Mark Baptist Church

Pastor John K. Berry was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He graduated from Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo and is currently pursuing his Masters of Divinity Degree. Pastor Berry has a unique gift to speak to all age groups with a relevant, practical, and thoroughly biblical message. He has a heart for youth and young adults and God has used him tremendously to make an impact on the lives of many generations.

 Berry has been a phenomenal leader in the local church and beyond. He served as a youth leader at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the late Dr. E.V. Hill. His peers elected him president of the California State Baptist Youth Convention. He was the youth pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Paso Robles under Dr. Ruben F. Tate. He also served as the Director of Youth For Christ for Long Beach and Compton. He was the first Director of the church based youth mentor program S.A.Y. Yes of Compton.   

               Pastor Berry has served the Body of Christ in many capacities. He has been a youth pastor, assistant pastor, and senior pastor of various Baptist churches in southern California. As Senior Pastor, Pastor Berry established the Immanuel Center for Children and Family Services Day Care that served over one hundred-fifty children and their families five days a week from six in the morning to six at night. Pastor Berry has been married to Beth for twenty years. They have three children, Rebecca, Deborah, and John Jr.

Dr. William LaRue Dillard described Pastor Berry as

 “Refreshing” and an outstanding preacher, speaker, and church leader.

Dr. Robert Smith said, “as long as we continue to produce preachers like Pastor John Berry, I’m not worried about the future of the local black church.”

The late Dr. E.V. Hill gave Pastor Berry the nick-name “Still Waters” after hearing him speak at a youth day event because of how deep and profound the message was.

We prayer our church continues to be  pastored by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Associate Ministers

 Rev.  Jones:  She is our missionary and she goes without fear or concern.  She travels  to  many third world countries including Sierra Leona and most recently the island of Haiti following the devastating earthquake serving and preaching the word of God.  She is a gradutate of Cottonwood Bible College, she has her own outreach ministry and she leads up our women's department here at our Church and outreaches at the convelescant homes every Sunday. Rev. Jones oversees  the Evangelism Ministry.
